Jordan women’s rights movement hails inclusive government

The Jordanian National Commission for Women on Thursday (June 14th) commended the government for the inclusion of women in the new ministerial team headed by Prime Minister-designate Omar Razzaz, the Jordan Times reported.

"The new government has set a new record in the number of female ministers in the history of Jordan," the commission said of Razzaz's team, sworn in Thursday, which includes seven women in the 29-strong cabinet.

"The men’s monopoly has been broken," the commission said in a statement, noting that the participation of women in the government has exceeded 24% for the first time in the kingdom.

"Achieving female access to equal citizenship and active participation in the economy requires the new government to adopt policies and laws that support the community’s efforts towards equality and the enhancement of the role of women in the public and private spheres," the commission said in its statement.
