Jordanian citizen killed in Toronto van attack

Jordan’s Foreign Ministry on Tuesday (April 24th) announced that a Jordanian citizen was among the victims of the deadly van attack that took place in the Canadian city of Toronto on Monday, the Jordan Times reported.

Jordanian national Muneer al-Najar, who was visiting his son in Toronto, was among the 10 people who were killed when a Canadian man plowed into pedestrians on a crowded sidewalk.

The suspect, identified as Alek Minassian, 25, was charged with 10 counts of first-degree murder on Tuesday.

A source from the ministry said the Jordanian Embassy in Ottawa had been on contact with al-Najar’s family to offer their condolences.

The embassy is following up with the Canadian authorities on their investigation of the incident, the source said, adding that the Foreign Ministry is now working on preparations to transfer al-Najar’s body to Jordan.
