Egypt on Tuesday (February 20th) announced that its navy is implementing security measures at the country’s Zohr gas field in the Mediterranean to combat any potential threats, Egypt’s Ahram Online reported.
In concurrence with Operation Sinai 2018, the Armed Forces said in a statement, naval forces are conducting a series of missions to secure vital and strategic sites in the country’s territorial waters to protect its national and economic interests and investments.
The navy is securing great distances off the coast using modern naval technology with advanced combat capabilities, including submarines, frigates and missile boats, as well as special naval units with high mobility and manoeuvrability, the statement said.
Operation Sinai 2018, launched on February 9th, is a "comprehensive" anti-terrorism campaign primarily focused in northern and central Sinai, and also includes operations in the Delta, the Nile Valley and the Western Desert.
