Hariri slams Rouhani speech as 'unacceptable'

Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri hit back on Monday (October 23rd) at Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, rebuking the latter’s claim that Lebanon completely falls under Iran’s sphere of influence, Annahar reported Tuesday.

"Rouhani's affirmation that no decision is made in Lebanon without Iran is unacceptable," Hariri said in a Monday tweet.

"Lebanon is an independent Arab state that accepts no guardianship and refuses what undermines its dignity," he said.

On Monday, Rouhani said in a speech in Tehran that Iran's position in the region had never been stronger.

"In Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, northern Africa, in the Persian Gulf region -- where can action be taken without Iran?" he said.
