Egypt army fends off Karam al-Kawadis attack

The Egyptian army fended off a terror attack on a security checkpoint in Karam al-Kawadis area of North Sinai on Sunday (October 15th), killing 24 militants, Egypt’s Ahram Online reported.

Six army personnel were killed during the fight, army spokesman Tamer al-Refaei said in a statement.

Egyptian forces destroyed two four-wheel drive vehicles the militants had used to carry out the attack, he said.

The Sunday attack comes just one day after the army said it had successfully thwarted a major attack on a security checkpoint in North Sinai's al-Arish.

On Friday, six army personnel were killed in another attack on a security checkpoint in al-Arish.

A number of militants were killed and injured when the army returned fire during that fight, the army said.

Awqaf Minister Mohamed Mokhtar Gomaa on Monday mourned the slain soldiers, saluting their sacrifices in defending the country from terrorism, the MENA news agency reported.
