Egypt army foils car-bomb attack in North Sinai

Egypt's army on Tuesday (August 15th) foiled a militant car-bomb attack in North Sinai, Egypt’s Ahram Online reported.

The armed forces, including the air force, discovered and destroyed a militant hideout used to conduct terrorist operations against the military, said armed forces spokesman Tamer el-Rifai.

"This is a continuation of the efforts of the armed forces in combating terrorist activity and pursuing militant elements," el-Rifai said.

Meanwhile, a 42-year-old policeman was killed Tuesday morning in a gun attack in the North Sinai provincial capital of al-Arish, in the vicinity of its police station.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, although many similar attacks have been claimed by "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) affiliate Wilayat Sinai.
