Saudi royal rules out rapprochement with Iran

Saudi Arabia's deputy crown prince said Tuesday (May 2nd) that there could be no rapprochement between his country and Iran, which he said wants to dominate the Muslim world, AFP reported.

In an interview with MBC television, Mohammed bin Salman also said the kingdom could withstand a long war in Yemen, where Saudi Arabia fights in support of pro-government forces against the Iran-backed Houthis (Ansarallah).

During the interview, the deputy crown prince said "there are no points of convergence" with Tehran, whose principle aim is to harm the kingdom.

He said Iran never acted with sincerity towards Saudi Arabia and that all its attempts at rapprochement were "comedies".
