Jordan stands by Iraq in terror fight: official

Jordan's senate president Faisal al-Fayez on Wednesday (November 16th) reiterated the kingdom's desire to preserve Iraq's unity and security and support its efforts to eliminate terrorism, the Jordanian news agency, Petra, reported.

Welcoming Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament Salim Jabouri, al-Fayez said Jordan and Iraq are bound by strong ties that are based on mutual respect.

He called for consultations and co-ordination between the two countries to continue in various areas, particularly the war on terrorism and extremism .

Despite regional turmoil, al-Fayez said, Jordan is strong at the security and political levels, though it is facing economic challenges as a result of hosting Syrian refugees.

Jabouri said security challenges require concerted efforts, noting that the peace and stability Jordan enjoys are important for solving the region's issues.

On Tuesday, Jordan's King Abdullah met with King Philippe of Belgium to discuss regional developments, urging key powers to boost co-ordination and co-operation to achieve global security and stability, a Royal Court statement said.

Both monarchs stressed the importance of adopting a holistic strategy to combat extremism and terrorism, which pose a threat to world peace.
