Foreign experts in Egypt to probe Russian airliner crash

Russian and German experts arrived in Cairo on Monday (August 29th) to inspect the wreckage of an airliner downed over Sinai last October, hoping to pinpoint how it came apart, AFP reported.

The "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) claimed responsibility for bombing the plane carrying Russian tourists in October 2015, killing all 224 people on board.

The wreckage of the Airbus A321 has been transported to Cairo airport and will be pieced together "to determine the starting point for the disintegration", Egypt's aviation ministry said.

French and Irish experts also were expected in Cairo for the investigation, the ministry said.

Egypt's military, which has been battling ISIL in Sinai, said Friday it had foiled an attempted attack on a military outpost in Rafah, Ahram Online reported.

Four militants were killed when Egyptian forces opened fire on them as they attempted to attack the North Sinai outpost, the army said in a statement.
