The Lebanese army on Sunday (August 21st) dismantled an explosive device discovered outside the house of Arsal mayor Bassel al-Hujairi, Lebanese media reported.
The bomb weighed around five kilogrammes and had been set for remote detonation, the National News agency said.
The army said an investigation is under way.
Al-Hujairi and several prominent Arsal figures have reportedly received death threats from the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL).
