Egypt’s parliament on Sunday (January 13th) approved a three-month extension of a nationwide state of emergency, Ahram Online reported.
The extension of the state of emergency will go in effect at 1 a.m. Tuesday.
According to the parliament bylaws, a majority of lawmakers should approve the declaration of the state of emergency, while the support of one third of lawmakers is required to extend it.
President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi first imposed the three-month nationwide state of emergency in April 2017, following deadly bombings at churches in Tanta and Alexandria claimed by the "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS).
