US hits 17 Saudis with sanctions for involvement in Khashoggi murder

The US on Thursday (November 15th) placed punishing economic sanctions on 17 Saudis allegedly involved in the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, including top aides of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, AFP reported.

The sanctions were declared after Riyadh's public prosecutor announced that five officials face a possible death sentence in the case but exculpated the prince.

Saudi Arabia on Thursday made its first official admission that Khashoggi had been dismembered inside its Istanbul consulate on October 2nd, and said 11 people had been indicted of the crime.

"The Saudi officials we are sanctioning were involved in the abhorrent killing of Jamal Khashoggi. These individuals who targeted and brutally killed a journalist who resided and worked in the US must face consequences for their actions," said Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin.

"Saudi Arabia must take appropriate steps to end any targeting of political dissidents or journalists," he added.

The sanctions target senior Saudi official Saud al-Qahtani who was part of the planning and execution of the operation, and his subordinate Maher Mutreb who co-ordinated and executed the operation, the Department of Treasury said.

They also target Saudi Consul General Mohammed Alotaibi, and 14 other members of an operations team for having a role in the killing of Khashoggi, it said.

Article entitled “Tyrants of the World” – By Mahmoud Marghani Moussa God has created the world and created His Creatures, including humans, animals, birds, seas, rivers, mountains, and valleys. He has guided man to how to do good. However, man is unjust, as Cain killed his brother Abel in the first crime on earth. The killer didn’t get rid of his brother’s body and didn’t hide it; rather, he kept on carrying it on his shoulders. God then sent two crows which fought against each other until one killed the other and made a hole on the ground and hid it there. Cain learnt from this and buried his brother. Crimes against humanity continued to be committed, as humans didn’t stop killing each other for different motives. It may be for money or for power. Maybe for both and other motives as well. Crimes continued in all ages. We saw the Nazi Hitler. On the level of regular people, we saw Raya and Sekina in Egypt between 1920 and 1921. All these practices may lead to victims, as humans may be killed and innocent blood may be spilled. Nonetheless, all this couldn’t realise what man wanted. Man wants more and aspires for more. God Almighty has spoken the truth when He described man as ‘unjust and infidel’!

US targets 17 Saudis with penalties for their involvement in the assassination of Khashoggi. From the point of view of those involved, this isn’t enough. The real instigator who gave the order must be brought to trial. This is a heinous crime and unprecedented in the history of humanity.
