The Jordanian army has foiled an attempt to smuggle a huge haul of narcotic pills into the kingdom via the eastern border strip with Syria, the Jordanian news agency, Petra, reported Sunday (March 11th).
Border guards forced several approaching vehicles back into Syrian territory as they attempted to cross the frontier, a military official said.
Combing the area, the guards, in collaboration with the Anti-Narcotics Department and surveillance crews, seized ammunition for AK-47 assault rifles and nine bags stuffed with 951 blocks of hashish.
They also found 28,300 tablets of the opiate-based drug, Tramadol, and 183,000 Captagon pills.
All confiscated materials have been transferred to the concerned authorities.
