Egypt's armed forces on Thursday (March 1st) said 13 gunmen were killed in northern Sinai on day 21 of "Operation Sinai 2018", local media reported.
The Egyptian air force destroyed a number of targets used to shelter terror elements after receiving information on their whereabouts, the army said in a statement.
"Two booby-trapped vehicles that were set to target armed forces in areas of operation were also destroyed," the statement said.
The military also destroyed 100 hideouts, tunnels and trenches where large amounts of weapons and ammunition, binoculars and military uniforms were found.
The army arrested 86 wanted terror elements and legal procedures are being taken against them, the statement said.
"Army engineers uncovered and diffused 10 improvised explosive devices (IEDs), which were planted to target security forces during operations," it added.
Six plantations of marijuana and poppies (used to make morphine and codeine) also were seized along with more than 5,650 kilogrammes of narcotics, Al-Arabiya reported.
Naval forces are securing vital locations along the coasts of Sinai, cutting off supply lines and attempts to smuggle terrorists out of the peninsula, the army statement said.
