The Lebanese army on Tuesday (November 14th) arrested fugitive cleric Mustafa al-Hujeiri, also known as "Abu Taqiyeh", in the border town of Arsal, Lebanon’s Naharnet reported.
The arrest was made at dawn, and interrogations have kicked off with the related judiciary, the Army Command-Orientation Directorate said in a statement.
Al-Hujeiri, who is known to be affiliated with the former al-Nusra Front (ANF), had been indicted for his involvement in the kidnapping of Lebanese soldiers in Arsal in August 2014.
The army sought his arrest following confessions by his detained son, Obada, about his father's alleged involvement in the 2014 kidnapping of around 30 Lebanese soldiers and policemen during clashes with extremist groups in Arsal.
The army raided al-Hujeiri’s house in Arsal in September, but he was not home. The military also raided an industrial complex belonging to al-Hujeiri, in Wadi al-Hosn and confiscated weapons and ammunition.
Media reports also said that the detainee is involved in several terror acts.
