Fugitive militant Shadi al-Mawlawi has reportedly left his hideaway in Ain al-Hilweh, a Palestinian refugee camp outside Sidon, and fled to Syria, Lebanon's Naharnet reported Thursday (October 26th).
According to VDL (93.3) radio, al-Mawlawi left the camp five days ago during clashes and fled to Syria with two other militants, one from the Tripoli area and another who is a follower of radical cleric Ahmed al-Assir.
Al-Mawlawi led armed groups that engaged in deadly gun battles with the army in Tripoli and its surroundings in 2014.
Meanwhile, the Lebanese army on Thursday announced the arrest of another terror fugitive who was hiding in Ain al-Hilweh, Naharnet reported.
“Ali Naim Hmeid, also known as Ali Nejmeh, was arrested after being lured from the Ain el-Hilweh camp,” the army said in a statement.
He belongs to the extremist group led by Bilal Badr, the army said.
