Arab leaders prepare for UN General Assembly

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi held talks with UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed on Sunday (September 17th) on the sidelines of the 72nd UN General Assembly in New York, Egypt’s Ahram Online reported.

Al-Sisi and Bin Zayed, who is heading the Emirati delegation, discussed the various crises in the region, which are expected to be discussed at the UN General Assembly starting this week.

Also attending Sunday's meeting were Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and Khaled Fawzy, the head of Egypt's General Intelligence Directorate.

Al-Sisi is due to deliver a speech to the General Assembly on Tuesday.

Lebanese President Michel Aoun is expected to deliver a speech to the General Assembly on Thursday, Lebanon’s National News Agency reported.

Aoun will hold meetings with a number of heads of states and UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.

Lebanon's participation is the first for a Lebanese president in three years due to the political vacuum.

Jordan’s King Abdullah met with Guterres on Sunday to review regional developments and the role of Jordan and the UN in finding political solutions to regional crises, the Jordan Times reported Monday.

The two discussed the Syrian crisis, especially with regard to the areas of de-escalation, and efforts aimed at finding a political solution to the crisis, in addition to the situation in Iraq.
