Lebanese forces nab 5-member ISIS-linked cell

Lebanese forces arrested a five-member cell connected with the "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) during search raids in Beirut and the Bekaa Valley, Naharnet reported Tuesday (July 25th).

The arrests came after Internal Security Forces monitored the movements of five Syrian suspects who operated between Beirut and the Dora area, the ISF said in a statement.

On July 17th and 18th, the ISF raided areas in Beirut and the Bekaa Valley and arrested all members of the cell, who were identified only by their initials.

During the investigation, the ring leader admitted he belonged to ISIS in Syria and had attended military courses in al-Tayybeh, later moving to al-Mayadeen area to participate in the fighting.

In 2016, he moved to Lebanon, where he was tasked with recruiting individuals who support the ISIS ideology.
