"Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" affiliate Wilayat Sinai on Thursday (August 18th) confirmed the death of its chief, two weeks after the Egyptian army announced the killing during an operation in North Sinai, Egypt's Ahram Online reported.
In a statement shared on social media accounts affiliated with ISIL, the group said Abu Doaa al-Ansari had been killed along with other fighters while "countering a military campaign".
The Egyptian army, which has been waging an ongoing military operation against the group in Sinai, announced it had killed al-Ansari on August 4th, along with his top aides and dozens of others fighters in a series of airstrikes.
The ISIL affiliate said it had named a new chief, "Sheikh Abdullah", and warned more attacks were yet to come.
