A roadside bombing in Egypt's Sinai killed two policemen and wounded three others on Monday (July 11th), AFP reported.
A police lieutenant and a sergeant were killed when a roadside bomb tore through a convoy, also wounding two officers and a conscript, the interior ministry said.
The "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) claimed its elements had targeted a police mine clearing vehicle, but it was not clear whether it was referring to the same incident.
In a separate incident Sunday, unknown assailants blew up the two-story municipality building of al-Sabil village in the North Sinai provincial capital of al-Arish, Egypt Independent reported.
Meanwhile, Egyptian forces on Sunday thwarted an attack that was set to target a security checkpoint in Sheikh Zuweid, Egypt's Ahram Online reported.
Army spokesman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Samir said security forces "were able to thwart the attack after they monitored a gathering of militants near the checkpoint based on intelligence information, killing them through strikes conducted by air forces and field artillery".
Over the last few days, the army has killed 14 militants during combing and raid operations in North Sinai and arrested 12 others as part of the continuing Operation Martyr's Right, Samir said.
The army also dismantled an improvised explosive device (IED), he added.
