Egypt says 7 police killed in North Sinai attack

Seven police officers have been killed in an attack by extremists in North Sinai, AFP reported Wednesday (June 26th).

The attack near the provincial capital of al-Arish targeted an "assembly centre" for police, Egypt's interior ministry said.

Four assailants died "during clashes" following the attack, one of whom was killed when he detonated an explosives belt, the ministry said.

Egypt has been conducting an offensive against the "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) and other extremists in the restive peninsula.
