Egypt authorities foil Damietta drug smuggling attempt

Customs authorities in Egypt’s Damietta on Sunday (June 23rd) thwarted an attempt to smuggle two containers coming from an Arab country with about 20 million drug pills inside, Ahram Online reported.

The authorities acted upon a tip-off from anti-narcotic department that a foreign national was planning to bring in amounts of Captagon drugs.

A committee was formed to search the containers and found Captagon tablets hidden inside the containers.

The approximate value of the seized amounts is 200 million Egyptian pounds ($12 million).

The prosecution was notified for investigations.
