Egypt, UK ministers discuss military co-operation

Egyptian Minister of Defence Mohamed Zaki on Thursday (June 13th) discussed ways to boost military co-operation between Egypt and the UK with British Minister of State for the Armed Forces Mark Lancaster, Ahram Online reported.

According to an Egyptian military statement, Zaki and Lancaster discussed the latest developments regionally and internationally during a meeting in Cairo.

The war on terrorism and joint exercises were discussed in the meeting as well.

Zaki expressed his appreciation for the historic relations between Egypt and the UK, adding that he was looking forward to more co-operation in the future between the two countries.

Lancaster praised the role Egypt is playing in supporting stability and security in the Middle East and North Africa.

Egyptian armed forces chief of staff Mohamed Farid attended, as did British ambassador to Egypt Geoffrey Adams and British defence attaché Col. Edward Sandry.

This is Lancaster’s first official visit to Egypt, according to the British embassy.
