Twelve suspected extremists from the Hasm militant group were killed Monday (May 20th) in police raids near Cairo, AFP reported.
Security forces "carried out a raid against an apartment in the 6th of October district used for making explosive devices”, the interior ministry said.
“These forces were shot at and responded, which left seven dead among the group," the ministry said in a statement.
In another raid in Cairo's al-Shorouk neighbourhood targeting Hasm, five suspected extremists were killed in an exchange of fire, the ministry said.
Weapons and ammunition were seized in both raids, conducted after national security services received information that Hasm was planing attacks, the ministry said.
