Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi will meet with US President Donald Trump at the White House on April 9th to discuss bilateral military, economic and counterterrorism co-operation, AFP reported Friday (March 29th).
The pair "will discuss strengthening the strategic partnership between the US and Egypt and building on our robust military, economic and counterterrorism co-operation", the White House said in a statement.
"The two leaders will also discuss developments and shared priorities in the region, including enhancing regional economic integration and addressing ongoing conflicts, and Egypt's longstanding role as a lynchpin of regional stability."
Cairo has received $40 billion in US military aid and $30 billion in economic aid since 1980.
Late last week, senior delegations from the US and Egypt gathered in Washington, D.C., for the 31st meeting of the Military Co-operation Committee (MCC), Egypt’s Ahram Online reported Friday.
The delegations discussed "a broad range of defence issues, including "counterterrorism, border and maritime security, security assistance and security co-operation", according to the US embassy in Cairo.
"The MCC is the premier bilateral defence forum for co-ordinating defence co-operation, identifying shared security objectives, and consulting on a wide array of strategic issues," the statement read.
It also stressed that the "US and Egypt remain committed to a strong bilateral relationship built on common interests and mutual respect".
