World Government Summit to convene in Dubai

The 7th World Government Summit (WGS 2019), set to begin Sunday (February 10th), will bring more than 4,000 high-level officials from 140 countries together with international organisations and entrepreneurs to shape the future, the Emirati news agency (WAM) reported.

During the summit, held under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, vice president, prime minister and ruler of Dubai, around 600 speakers will participate in more than 200 interactive sessions on vital sectors that will shape the future of humanity.

Topics at the summit, which will continue through Tuesday, range from climate change and fiscal policy to government service innovations and post-conflict social reconciliation.

The summit will see the attendance of almost 100 ministers from around the world, with more than 120 presidents and officials from leading international companies joining forces to address the issues of today and tomorrow.

UAE Minister of Cabinet Affairs and the Future Mohammed bin Abdullah al-Gergawi, who serves as WGS chairman, said the summit seeks to provide a blueprint for the success of nations to all governments across the world.

He said summit participants will present their experiences in seven key areas: the future of technology and its impact on future governments, the future of health and quality of life, the future of the environment and climate change, the future of education and the labour market, the future of trade and international co-operation, the future of societies and politics, and the future of information and communication between government and society.

Among the participants is Lebanese Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri, who will discuss Lebanese, Arab and international affairs and his vision for the future of governments; and Erin Marie Saltman, policy manager for Europe, the Middle East and Africa on Counterterrorism and Countering Violent Extremism at Facebook, who will discuss the challenges of combating extremism on social media.
