Jordan’s king calls for transparency in government appointments

Jordan’s King Abdullah on Tuesday (February 5th) stressed the need for appointments in the government to be based on competence and expertise, and to be transparent and just, the Jordan Times reported.

Abdullah directed the government to explain its decisions to citizens and to reconsider any appointment that was not based on transparent and fair procedures, according to a Royal Court statement.

He also stressed the importance of holding employees and officials accountable for any shortcoming while performing their duties, and asked them to join efforts to develop the level of public services.

"We want to serve our citizens in a transparent and devoted manner," he said.

He also highlighted the importance of procedures that state institutions have recently adopted to combat corruption, stressing the need to continue adopting a transparent and clear approach that forms the basic point in enhancing confidence between the government and citizens.
