Jordan PM tours newly-opened Iraq border crossing

Jordanian Prime Minister Omar Razzaz on Saturday (February 2nd) toured al-Karama border crossing with Iraq to check on the movement of passengers and trucks after it opened to cargo trucks, the Jordanian news agency, Petra, reported.

The premier met with staff at the border crossing, praising their efforts at the "key and vital facility" that links Jordan and Iraq.

Razzaz, who made the tour after the two countries signed a series of agreements, said the border crossing will witness "a brisk movement, which will reflect positively on the two brotherly countries, and that requires upgrading all operating bodies".

He said the government will provide support to the border post to raise its capacity and improve the working environment to accommodate for trade between Jordan and Iraq, which is expected to increase during the coming period.

He chatted with staff and travelers, who expressed their satisfaction with the return of normal life on the Amman-Baghdad road.
