'Festive fire' injures 5 in Lebanon New Year’s celebrations

Five people were injured in so-called "celebratory gunfire" as Lebanon celebrated the New Year, Lebanese media reported.

Overall, however, the Internal Security Forces (ISF) on Tuesday (January 1st) said its security plan for New Year's Eve had been successful, saying the celebrations went without major incidents.

Five people were lightly injured by celebratory gunfire in various regions, Naharnet reported.

One of the shooters has been arrested, and several others have been identified, with efforts under way to arrest them, the ISF said.

The army command had previously urged citizens to refrain from celebratory gunfire over the New Year's holiday, and warned that legal actions would be taken against violators.
