Van driver arrested in Lebanon on arms smuggling charges

Lebanon’s Internal Security Forces (ISF) arrested a van driver in the Bekaa Valley district of Hermel on charges of trafficking arms and ammunition from Syria into Lebanon, the National News Agency reported Saturday (December 8th).

"Following intensive investigations, the ISF’s Information Branch managed to arrest the driver on charges of smuggling weapons and ammunition from Syria into Lebanon," an ISF statement said.

Police confiscated 26 boxes of ammunition from the suspect’s truck, the statement said.

He admitted during the course of investigation to having been smuggling weapons and ammunition in co-ordination with partners and in return for financial gains.

Investigations are still under way to apprehend the rest of the gang.
