Egyptian forces kill 11 suspected extremists in Sinai

Egyptian forces have killed 11 suspected extremists in Sinai as they press a campaign against the "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) and other extremists on the peninsula, AFP reported Monday (September 10th).

"Eleven terrorist elements were killed in an exchange of fire" with security forces in the North Sinai provincial capital of al-Arish, a security source said.

The extremists were in an abandoned gas station "preparing terrorist acts" against security forces, the source added.

Egypt’s military says around 300 suspected extremists and at least 35 soldiers have been killed since the February launch of Operation Sinai 2018.
