Lebanese forces foil Dahyeh bomb, assassination plot

Lebanon’s Internal Security Forces (ISF) have arrested two individuals who had planned to target Beirut’s southern suburb of Dahyeh and assassinate soldiers, Lebanon's Naharnet reported Monday (September 10th).

The ISF's intelligence branch tracked down and arrested a Syrian suspect in the Aramoun area, the ISF said in a statement.

He confessed to having infiltrated Lebanon’s border in 2011, and to subsequently getting to know individuals affiliated with the "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) in the Sabra neighbourhood.

He and another Syrian national, who was arrested in the town of Ansar, shared ISIS videos and publications, including one showing how to make poison, grenades and booby traps, the statement said.

They agreed to carry out terror attacks in Dahyeh and to assassinate soldiers, the statement said, adding that the two have been referred to the relevant authorities.
