Jordan, Iraq discuss investment in reconstruction

Secretary General of the Council of Ministers of Iraq Mahdi al-Alak on Tuesday (July 10th) called on Jordan’s private sector to contribute to the reconstruction of Iraq and take part in investment opportunities, the Jordan Times reported.

During a meeting with Planning and International Co-operation Minister Mary Kawar, al-Alak said Iraq could benefit from Jordanian expertise in the field of co-operation with international organisations, and that Jordan could help build Iraqi capabilities in this regard.

Kawar expressed the Jordanian government’s willingness to provide technical expertise to Iraq in the field of statistics, especially in the population and housing census that Iraq will implement in 2020, noting that Jordan would share the approach followed during its 2015 census.

Iraqi Ambassador to Jordan Safia al-Suhail outlined the measures taken by the Iraqi government to develop border crossings between the two countries to facilitate trade and travel.

She also reviewed co-operation in the field of higher education, noting that 180,000 Iraqi students are attending Jordanian universities.
