Saudi Arabia pardons soldiers over Yemen conflict

Saudi Arabia on Tuesday (July 10th) issued a sweeping royal pardon for its soldiers deployed in Yemen, lifting any "military and disciplinary" penalties for troops supporting pro-government forces, AFP reported Wednesday.

Yemeni forces, backed by Saudi Arabia and the UAE, are battling Iran-backed Houthis (Ansarallah) in fighting that has killed some 10,000 Yemeni citizens.

A statement announcing the pardon, published by the Saudi Press Agency, did not mention any particular offenses, but said the move was to show appreciation for the "heroics and sacrifices" of the country's soldiers.
