Saudi fugitive killed in security operation: ministry

A Saudi national wanted for his alleged role in an April attack that left four policemen dead has been killed in a security operation, the Saudi interior ministry said Monday (May 7th).

The ministry said Khaled al-Shehri had refused to surrender to security forces who had raided his family home in Asir province on Saturday, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

He threatened the police with a knife and was shot dead, a ministry source said.

Four Saudi policemen were killed and four others wounded on April 20th in an attack targeting a checkpoint in Asir province, AFP reported.

Security officials identified and arrested two of the perpetrators at the time, both Saudi nationals, but the third suspect opened fire as he tried to escape, killing another officer and wounding four others.
