Hariri marks 43rd anniversary of Lebanon’s civil war

Lebanese Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri on Friday (April 13th) marked the 43rd anniversary of Lebanon’s civil war, saying "lessons must be drawn", Lebanon’s Naharnet reported.

"April 13th, 1975 was a black day that ignited strife among the Lebanese and opened the doors wide for the state’s fall," al-Hariri said in a social media post.

"This day must be remembered and lessons must be drawn that overstepping legitimacy and national co-existence are only a door towards hell," he added.

The Lebanese civil war was fought between 1975 and 1990, resulting in an estimated 120,000 fatalities.

As of 2012, approximately 76,000 remained displaced within Lebanon, and there was an exodus of almost one million from Lebanon as a result of the war.
