Gunmen fire shots after stopping Hizbullah opponent’s car

Gunmen fired shots at the driver of a car belonging to Sheikh Abbas al-Jawhari, a former candidate on the Baalbek-Hermel electoral list that stands in opposition to Hizbullah's platform, Lebanon’s Naharnet reported Monday (April 2nd).

Gunmen fired shots at al-Jawhari’s driver after intercepting a car belonging to him in Baalbek, the Shia cleric said.

"They forced him to get out of the car and fired between his legs," al-Jawhari said. "Once they knew that I was not present they fired in the air and fled towards Baalbek."

Al-Jawhari placed the blame for the attack on the "inciteful rhetoric" of Hizbullah leader Hassan Nasrallah.

The shooting occurred near the Imam Ali Mosque in Baalbek, MTV reported, when two bearded men stepped out of a Mercedes and fired near the driver’s legs, before fleeing.
