Jordan marks World Interfaith Harmony Week

Jordan has celebrated World Interfaith Harmony Week over the last few days with ceremonies attended by senior officials, envoys, lawmakers, senators and military officers, the Jordanian news agency, Petra, reported.

Prime Minister Hani al-Mulki on Wednesday (January 31st) attended a ceremony held by the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, along with other dignitaries.

Minister of Islamic Affairs Wael Arabiat addressed the gathering, saying the Islamic nation has persistently advocated efforts towards harmony and has disavowed hatred and division.

Diversity and openness are the pillars of peaceful co-existence, he said, urging mosque preachers to denounce hate rhetoric and to press ahead with the march of reform, achievement and acceptance of the other.

On Thursday, military Chief of Operations and Training Maj. Gen. Musleh Maaytah attended an interfaith event held by the Jordan Armed Forces (JAF).

JAF Mufti Brig.Gen Majed Darawsheh stressed the brotherly relations between followers of all faiths.

Jordanian Interfaith Co-existence Research Centre founder and executive director Nabil Haddad said the co-existence and harmony that exist in Jordan have given it a pioneering role in interfaith dialogue on the world stage.
