Jordan allows entry of aid to al-Rukban camp

Jordan has allowed the one-time entry of humanitarian aid to al-Rukban camp after the UN presented a plan in which it pledged to deliver aid to the camp from Syria, the Jordanian news agency, Petra, reported Sunday (January 7th).

Jordan had said it would only allow the delivery of aid as an exceptional measure if the UN presented a plan to provide aid to residents of the camp from Syria, according to Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad al-Kayed.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi earlier affirmed that al-Rukban camp — inside a closed military zone located in the no-man’s land between Jordan and Syria — is a Syrian and international responsibility.

Talks to discuss al-Rukban have been held for several months between a committee representing the Jordanian Foreign Ministry and concerned national agencies on one hand, and the UN on the other.
