Jordan king appoints new intelligence chief

Jordan's King Abdullah on Thursday (March 30th) appointed Maj. Gen. Adnan Issam Jundi as director of the General Intelligence Department (GID), succeeding Gen. Faisal Shobaki, the Jordan Times reported.

The king accepted Shobaki's resignation earlier in the day.

In a letter sent to Jundi, the king highlighted the challenges facing the region, saying Jordan must "confront all shapes and forms of terrorism via all possible means".

Public confidence in the performance of the GID must be maintained via investment to upgrade its capabilities and develop its structure, he wrote, with the aim of ensuring the highest levels of efficiency and professionalism.

This will require "constant work to raise the level of co-ordination among all the pillars of the security system to ingrain close co-operation and integrated joint action at all levels", he said.
