Two suspected al-Qaeda elements were killed in an airstrike that caused a large explosion when the munitions they were transporting blew up, AFP reported Wednesday (September 21st).
The Tuesday evening strike hit the Wadi Abida district of Marib province, east of Sanaa.
A security official named one of the dead as Abu Yaqin al-Waeli, a local al-Qaeda commander.
Al-Qaeda has taken advantage of Yemen's ongoing war to expand its presence in the province.
