10 soldiers killed in Yemen suicide bombing

Ten soldiers were killed on Sunday (September 11th) in a suicide bombing in a part of southern Yemen where extremist groups are active, AFP reported.

A further 14 soldiers were wounded when the bomber drove an explosives-laden car into an army position in Abyan province, a security official said.

Extremist groups including al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) and the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) have carried out numerous attacks in the region.

AQAP and ISIL have escalated their attacks in recent months, notably in the port city of Aden.
