Hadramaut elite forces, working in co-operation with intelligence agencies, on Saturday (November 3rd) announced they had found an al-Qaeda explosives cache in al-Shahar, east of the provincial capital of al-Mukalla.

The cache contained different types of anti-tank mines and strong explosives.

"In co-operation with the intelligence agencies, the Hadramaut elite forces in the 2nd Military District on Saturday found an explosives cache belonging to terrorists at a house in al-Shahar," the elite forces said in a statement.

The cache contained 280 highly explosive landmines, improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and TM-57 anti-tank mines, the statement added.

"Al-Qaeda was planning criminal operations against the security of Hadramaut and the stability and security of Yemen as a whole," 2nd Military District spokesman Hesham al-Jaberi told Al-Mashareq.

"The success of this security operation shows the vigilance of the 2nd Military District forces and the efforts of the intelligence agencies in thwarting bloody massacres planned by these terrorists," he added.

The 2nd Military District’s engineering teams have begun the process of dismantling the explosives and landmines, al-Jaberi confirmed.

Security and intelligence agencies "focus on combating terrorism, protecting citizens and their properties, and supporting the Arab coalition forces", he said.
